Dr Tom Cahill

Dr Tom Cahill is a Consultant Cardiologist based at the John Radcliffe Hospital (Oxford) and Cleveland Clinic (London). He has extensive experience in general cardiology and specialist expertise in heart valve disease, coronary artery disease, and structural heart conditions.

 

He believes in placing patients at the centre of every decision. His priority is to ensure each person receives the most appropriate treatment for their condition, carefully considering all options – whether conservative, medical, interventional, or surgical.

Areas of Expertise

Dr Cahill is highly experienced in the full range of transcatheter procedures for structural heart disease, including complex interventions in patients with previous valve replacements. He also specialises in catheter-based treatments for coronary artery disease.

He is recognised as a high-volume expert operator in:

  • Coronary angiography and stent implantation

  • Closure of patent foramen ovale (PFO)

  • Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI)

  • Transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER)

  • Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO)

  • Transcatheter valve replacement

Training and Qualifications

Dr Cahill graduated from the University of Cambridge (Queens' College) with a double first, before completing his medical training at University College London. Following clinical rotations in London and Oxford, he trained in Interventional Cardiology at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

He went on to spend two years at Columbia University Medical Centre in New York – an internationally renowned centre of excellence – where he gained advanced training in cutting-edge treatments for valvular and structural heart disease.

Academic and Research Contributions

Dr Cahill holds a DPhil (PhD) from the University of Oxford (2017) and has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers. He has contributed to leading cardiology textbooks and regularly lectures nationally and internationally. He is committed to medical education and serves as Lecturer in Clinical Medicine at Balliol College, University of Oxford.​

  • Heart valve disease (aortic stenosis, mitral & tricuspid regurgitation)

  • Outcomes from transcatheter treatments (TAVI, TEER, TMVR/TTVR)

  • Infective endocarditis

  • Myocardial infarction (heart attack)
